Lindsay & Shaun Get Married

After 9 years together my sister married her sweetheart at the weekend. I had been tasked with taking some photographs of her and the bridesmaids getting ready but I ended up doing the lot!

I’ve done a few weddings before but as far as I can recall this is the first where the Groom is actually a photographer! This, coupled with the fact it was my sister added to the pressure of making sure the shots were spot on. Fortunately, both the Bride and Groom were very laid back and took it all in their stride. I hope they like the photographs – I’m quite pleased with them!!

A Day at the Beach

These photos were taken on Saltburn beach one late summer evening. As I was processing the raw files I was amazed at how dirty either the lens or the sensor were at the time of taking. One thing that Aperture does particularly well is ‘cleaning’ up photos of spots, dirt, people(!), or whatever maybe in the picture that you want removed.

In fact, I reckon that if I’d left the dots/spots in, I could have joined them together and made a picture which probably would have turned out as a lion or elephant just like the in the join the dots books you had as a child!

You’ll be pleased to know that since the photos were taken I have mastered the art of cleaning a sensor on a dSLR, although it is not a job I particularly like doing; I am always worried I’ll break the camera!!!

Wind Swept

The photo below was taken underneath Saltburn Pier on a particularly dry but windy August afternoon. The sand was being blown down the beach at a tremendous speed which made for some interesting photo opportunities. Obviously not wanting to get sand in my camera I sought refuge underneath the pier and noticed that sand blowing past resulted in unusual shapes and textures on the sand. Cropping to 16:9, converting to B&W and ramping up the contrast gives the final image a kind of surreal, almost out of this world look and feel to it!
